Portfolio

responsAbility Renewable Energy Holding currently has a portfolio of 16 projects totalling more than 300 MW under development or operation across Sub-Saharan Africa. Many of these projects fall under a feed-in tariff (FIT) program with the local utility company as an off-taker, whereby tariffs are fixed by the government.

Rwaza I Hydropower Plant

The Rwaza I Hydropower Plant is located along the River Mukungwa, in Musanze district, Rwanda, and has an installed capacity of 2.7 MW.

rAREH constructed and now operates the hydropower plant in partnership with DC Hydro Power Limited (DCH, Rwanda) and DI Frontier Market Energy and Carbon Fund (Frontier, Denmark).

The run-of-the-river hydropower plant has become operational in October 2018.

Nyamindi Hydropower Cascade

The Nyamindi Hydropower Cascade consists of two run-of-river hydropower plants located along River Nyamindi, in Kirinyaga County, Kenya, with an installed capacity of 15.5 MW in total.

The project is being developed in partnership with:

  • Eco Power Holdings Limited (EPHL), an internationally renowned small hydropower developer and EPC contractor, with a proven track record in East Africa;
  • Green Light Holdings Limited (GLH), a Kenyan project development company.

REH Zambia Hydropower Portfolio

The REH Zambia portfolio involves the joint development of small hydropower sites in the range of 5-20 MW totalling 40 MW in the Republic of Zambia.

The portfolio is being developed in partnership with:

  • Renewable Energy Holdings (REH), a leading hydropower developer in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a proven track record in Southern Africa;
  • Norfund, a leading investor in renewable energy across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Makindu Solar Project

Makindu is a 33 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the Makindu area of Makueni County, Kenya.

The project is being developed in conjunction with a Kenyan project development company, Legacy Holdings.

Nyamwamba II Hydropower Project

Nyamwamba II is a greenfield 7.8 MW run of the river hydro project on the Nyamwamba river, in the Western part of Uganda.

The project is being developed in conjunction with SAEMS Hydro, an experienced local development company.

Nkhotakota Solar Project

Nkhotakota is a 50 MW solar project in the central part of Malawi, near the shores of Lake Malawi.

Mpanga-Nyamwamba Hydro Power Plants

Acquisition of the Mpanga (18 MW) and Nyamwamba (9.2 MW) hydropower plants from South Asia Energy Management Systems (SAEMS) in the Republic of Uganda.
